Costa Rica Real Estate
News is out that Costa Rica is the ‘New Hawaii’. What people mean by this is that it is similar to Hawaii as far as climate and
beauty is concerned but, importantly, that Costa Rica is how Hawaii used to be in the 1950s and 60s. At that time, not many people went to
Hawaii on a regular basis as it was simply too far away from mainland USA and too costly to get there. Nowadays Hawaii is no longer famous
for its sugar plantations but for its tourist industry.
Costa Rica is an emerging nation. Located in Central America with Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south, it is a fairly
narrow strip of land with the Pacific Ocean on the west side and the Caribbean on the East. It has lots of bio diversity. Many people go
there just to see the huge variety of animals, birds and insects. Lots of people go on holiday there to experience the beach and the ocean
and all the activities related to those locations, which are readily available in Costa Rica.
Prices are still reasonable at this time of writing but Costa Rica is booming, make no mistake. For the price of an average home
in North America, you can buy a spectacular home in Costa Rica. There are also many options to explore. Real Estate in Costa Rica comes in
a variety of packages. Realty companies like Century 21 and ReMax are well represented. There are also North American companies who have
bought land in Costa Rica and developed it into plots to build on. These companies can often offer you local construction crews to build
your house, which they will supervise. Also, when your house is completed they will even furnish it for you. Garden upkeep and utilities
are often part of the after sale package.
You can look for a home on the coast (where it is hot and often humid) or in the hills or mountains. Some parts of Costa Rica (the
Central Valley, for instance) have spring-like temperatures all year round whereas the cost enjoys hot weather. Being near the equator, the
sun sets at 5.30 pm or thereabouts every day of the year. There are just two seasons – the green (wet) and the dry season.
Costa Rica is a great place for a second home, a vacation property or a place to retire in the sun.
